The War of 1812 is more difficult to document due to the loss of records when the British burnt Washington, DC. The best way to document your ancestors service in the War of 1812 is to look at land patent records from the Bureau of Land Management; and look at the microfilm available at the National Archives in Washington, DC, or your local Family History Center, or the Mississippi State Department of Archives and History. The reason I am documenting as much information as I can regarding the War of 1812 is because it is so difficult to find these records. I hope this information can be of assistance to you.
