Isaac Newsom, of North Carolina, married Mollie Dorth, they were parents of Isaac Newsom, who moved to Georgia and then Mississippi, who married Mary Polly Lowe, and they were the parents of William M. Newsom who married Mary Jane Jones first, and Mary Ann Wylie second. William Newsom stayed in Mississippi until he died. He is buried in the Newsom Family Cemetery on Riverbend Road in Goss, Marion County, Mississippi.

28 Sept. 1795 - Peter Robertson of Nash Co. to Simon Stallings of Edgecombe Co., for no money and after his death a tract of 150 acres on the west side of Whittington Branch adjoining Isaac Newsum and Lewis Dortch. Wit.: Lewis Dortch, Lovice Dortch, and William Robertson

3 Jan 1797 - Isaac Newsum and Marey Newsum of Nash Co. to Lewis Dortch of same, for 315 pounds Virginia money two tracts of land: (1) 150 acres on the north side of Swift Creek; (2) 200 acres adjoining the first tract and William Dortch, James Nelson, and Thomas Hart. Wit.: Daniel Powell and William Wright.

COMMENT: Isaac Newsom may be selling land in preparation for his move to Georgia.

11 March 1797 - Isaac Newsom of Nash Co. to William Jelks of same, for 180 pounds Virginia money a tract of 200 acres on the south side of Beaver Dam Swamp, it being a parcel of land that was bequeathed by James Cain to his son, Jacob Cain, conveyed by him to Benjamin Foreman, and from him to Isaac Newsom. Wit.: W. S. Mearns, Matthew Culpepper, Jonathan Whitehead, and James Conwey.

 
 


Deed book G, page 66.  Will of Annie Dortch, probated Feb 1790, Nash County., NC Will Book 1, page 62 names son, Lewis Dortch and Daughters Mollie Newsom and Betty Long. Chas. H Newsom examined Bible and Will of Annie Dortch, still in possession of Joel's descendants in GA.

Isaac Newsom is listed as owning 23 slaves, 300 acres of 2nd. quality land and 800 acres of land in pine. His water course is listed as Beaver Dam. His land adjoins that of Powell.

Isaac Newsom, Sr. received a headright grant to 8071/2 acres, in Hancock County, GA, in 1812 and 76 acres in 1813.

He also purchased land from Daniel and Tamar Lowe, Hancock County, GA on 10 Dec 1799; Newsom Book complied by Sylvia Spearman Thomas

Isaac Newsom sells to Harmon Thompson several tracts of land for $700-SW quarter of S 11, T 5, R 18 W. containing 160 acres 49/100; also the SE quarter of S 11, T 5, R 18 W, containing 160.49 acres; also E half of the NW quarter of S 14, T 5, R 18 W, containing 169 acres- sold at St. Stephens, Alabama, (Land in Marion County) Testimony: J. Ephraim Bates swears that he has lost a note on Isaac Newsome for $65 payable January 1, 1829,
dated some time April or March 1828. Also another one on Levy Bass for $11.25 payable January 1, 1829, dated November, 1828, payable to Jonathan Bass. Sworn before G. Stovall J.P. December 23, 1828.
