"My name is Willis Lowe age about 71 years lived in Marion Co., Miss. 55 or 56 years and the claimant for a large gray mare taken by the Federal Forces of Miss.-the United States. I did not see the property (a large gray mare) taken by the union soldiers, but the day she was taken my grand son, Ben Barnes, was sent to Mrs. Martha Lott’s mill with a sock of corn and some wheat to be ground and while my grandson Benjamin Barnes was there the Union soldiers came to the mill and took my mare."
Since he had three sons in the Confederate Army, and he could not prove his loyalty to the Union in the way of acts, the testimony of the witnesses was insufficient to establish he was loyal to the Union, therefore his claim was denied.
